Heroin Takes Another

There was an amazing young man that got lost and found heroin. I did not know him personally, but my daughter knew him well.  I met him by watching social media. Which is disconcerting – watching video & seeing pictures makes your brain think you really know the person.

He was handsome, with a contagious smile, long curly hair, and a passion for skateboarding that landed him on his board almost every time. His skate boarding was sponsored, he competed & won trophies. He posted a couple skateboarding videos & this kid was amazing . . . Seeing him alive & vibrant & happy.

In a Facebook post a long ago friend described Steve as positive, always giving encouragement when needed. And his laugh  . . .

My daughter described him as troubled. Life was a burden hidden well behind the smile. He started using heroin, got clean – found a roommate, found a job, found contentment. The living situation blew-up and he returned home – triggering something &  he started using again.

I can’t help but think this kid had depression & probably did not known. He probably self medicated with heroin.

Before his scheduled admit to rehab he was found dead in Chicago last week. He died alone of a heroin overdose. He was 26. My heart is broken for those that knew & loved him. I am sorry to have met him only after he was gone.
